Difference Between Styles

There is actually no difference between PRIMAL, SURVIVAL, and NATURAL ORIGINS. Color is the only difference. They are all made with the same fit and material. We use an Air-Infused Rubber which makes the sole perfect for a minimalist shoe.

What Size to Order

The Stem fit is shaped to the human foot and will not fit like traditional shoes. Stem Footwear is designed to fit relaxed and free. The extra wide toebox allows all five toes to move freely and splay apart. There should be a generous amount of room for the ball of your foot to spread naturally. They can be worn with or without socks. Follow the fit instructions, and read all the below before wearing:

How Sizes Run

Mens sizes run different than Womens. Mens run True to Size. Womens run 1/2-Full size small. Men that are on the border between two sizes should order UP. Women always need to order UP. Continue reading.
Go by our labeled US size not the EU size.
Women need to order up. For example, Women that typically wear a US 8 will need the 9-9.5 (EU 40), women that wear 8.5 will also need the 9-9.5 (EU 40).
If you are having trouble deciding between two sizes, we recommend you buy both and exchange the one that doesn't fit. It saves you about 8 days of delay
Fits best for medium to wide feet (not for narrow feet).

How to Fit

Tap your heel to the back.
Your toes should fit close to the end of the shoe (less a than finger width), because it follows the natural shape of the foot.
The extra width at the toebox is designed to be there.
Don't worry they should not feel "snug" in the toebox like your other shoes.
Don't lace tight to try to achieve a "snug" fit. This is natural fit.

Other Tips

Machine washable gentle. Do not machine dry. Air dries in front of a fan in less than 2 hours.
Stem Footwear can be worn with or without socks. We've found that when performing athletic activities Stem Footwear fits best without socks.
If wearing socks, we recommend wearing Injinji™ five-toed socks. (Thinner lightweight styles are our personal favorite)
To improve healthy toe alignment we recommend wearing Stem Footwear™ with Correct Toes™ intermittently (see instructions for use.)
Take off your shoes and go barefoot frequently. Barefooting is the best training to learn how to walk more natural. Remember transition slowly.

Disclaimer

When going barefoot you must exercise a certain level of awareness, as is the same when stepping in Stem footwear. This degree of attentiveness and responsiveness contributes to the experience. For most wearers, your stride will automatically adjust to a lighter, more natural stride. Stem footwear is not recommended for strenuous athletic activity unless you have taken the necessary transitional steps to a barefoot style shoe. Stem footwear can result in injury, however when used properly, can result in stronger, healthier, more injury-resistant feet and body. Take it slow.

Assistant Pastor

I have had a pair of Stems since they were released. I am still in love with them. When I need a little more shoe for work or winter weather in North Dakota, they are my go-to footwear. They are super comfortable and almost wide enough for my freakishly wide foot! What I think makes them better than other "barefoot shoe" is they are easy on/easy off. I get to the office - off they go. When I need them back on, I just slip into them - no aligning toes into their correct place.

Miss

I just got these today and think they are brilliant, I have tried 4 different kinds of barefoot shoes and these are the most comfortable, soft, flexible and kind to the soles of my feet. The weird thing is that I have big feet and when I took these out of the box I thought they looked too small, but they were fine, plenty of room. I would give them 5 stars, but since I've only worn them a day I don't know how long they will last, if they make it past 6 months, i'll give them another star.

Winter / Social Survival

This is the only way to have warm feet while you still have all the benefits you would have had if you could go barefoot. I also have to wear shoes to work - but with my Stems, it is like going to work barefoot. I think of them as my Emperor's New Clothes - everybody thinks I am wearing shoes, but I am really going barefoot!

Freakin' Awesome!

Man, I love my Stems. I wear them every chance I get and wish they had a "dress up" pair I could wear to work. Like another reviewer, I've experienced some thread/seam issues, but I'm not parting with them for a return. I'll just deal with it until I have to do something about it. I credit the Stems with fixing my plantar and achilles pain. I wear them all day, every day during the weekend, as well as during some workouts. These are the best shoes in my closet!

amazing shoes

I've been wearing vibrams for a while now which always get some weird looks. I was thrilled to see a barefoot style shoe come out that looked like a shoe. These shoes are so comfortable, I literally wear them everyday. They even stay warm when I wear them in the snow in Buffalo. The only thing is, my other sport shoes are a size 11.5, so I ordered the 11-11.5 size which are a little too big. The sizing seems to be a little inaccurate but they are still some of the best shoes I've owned.

Been wearing these frequently since the release over 3 months ago. I am shocked by the durability. Also, they are the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. I have played basketball, Crossfitted, Olympic lifted, and run in these, and they show almost NO sign of wear. The sole is the most amazing part of the shoe. The soles are super flexible & thin, yet the way the sole is shaped, particularly in the heel, it follows the perfect shape. I love them for walking as well.
